What are a lot of people against just because they don't understand it?

I actually don't have a problem with the transgender bathroom thing. What I do have a problem with is the way that they go about attacking legal issues.

They attack it on the separate but equal line of thinking. Which is fair enough, until you consider the effect that has in the long run when it comes to separation of gender via bathrooms, changing rooms, etc.

Now this in and of itself isn't that big of an issue for me. As an adult, I can handle it.

But. It's different when its kids.

There are too many stories of boys out there passing nude photos around, too many stories of football players basically getting away with rape or having the girl getting death threats if she comes forward, too many stories of boys that are raped by girls that get laughed off if they come forward. Far, far too many for foregoing gender segregation of bathrooms and such in schools.

I also think if it in a simple way: 1 in 4 girls will be a victim of sexual molestation/rape by 18, as will 1 in 6 boys. I'm sorry, but I cannot get behind a policy that will have a 17 year old anatomically male in the locker room with 14 year old girls given those stats and risk so many constantly having flashbacks and other issues. For me, the issue is even more intense when I think of the reverse situation because of the way that girls will receive help far more than boys.

I cannot ask 1/4 of females and 1/6 of male teenage children to forego their mental health like that for the sake of less than half a percent of the population and their mental health.

No amount of tolerance bashing and "transphobic" diatribe is going to change that fact.
