The media is lying

I don't know enough about this topic, except the article you linked. Regardless, yeah, the media does that all the time, it's kinda their job actually, unfortunately.

That said, I do have some personal experiences. Not with American TSA but I have seen security find a tiny scissors in an old lady's bag, and apparently the walk-in detectors can detect those extremely small safety pins on your person. That last one was very surprising.

So yeah, I guess the idea of someone passing security with a gun or an actual knife is really weird (assuming TSA is similar to other parts of the world, I hear they're even more strict, like dystopiany strict).
