What are some ways that stand out to you that NZ and Aus are different culturally?

Were a bit more progressive with technology for example - cash is more common in Australia. Here in NZ most people just use their cards and don’t bother carrying cash. In Australia people carried more cash and more businesses either didn’t accept cards or had a hefty surcharge. Obviously this could’ve changed in the years since but this is comparing NZ at the time to Aus at the time.

Not really like this anymore. Excluding maybe one or two barber shops or bakeries trying to avoid tax, everywhere uses debit cards like NZ. If anything Australia is further ahead with technology - I touch on to trams / trains with my phone. In Wellington trains still have clip tickets like it's the 60s

Australian people I found were a bit more religious. In NZ i can only think of like 5 people that go to church regularly, in Australia there were several more. Depends on your circles. None of my Australian born friends are religious, but a lot of the immigrants I'm friends with especially the Greek/Lebanese communities are.

Australia was a bit more racist than NZ. As a white person I didn’t experience this personally but I did notice the way Australians treated the aboriginal people as well as immigrants was worse than the way we treat Maori and our immigrants.

Australia has a weird way of dealing with their past issues. There is acknowledgment of country said before any import meetings/events etc and a lot of other things done but it still feels somewhat segregated.

Never once witnessed racism to immigrants and Australia feels a lot more multicultural with massive communities everywhere. Over 35% of Australia is immigrants.

The whole NZ vs Australia giving eachother shit was a bit one sided in my experience. Here in NZ we like to make fun of the Aussies and taunt them about sports etc. That didn’t happen in Australia. They didn’t make jokes about NZ and they cared more about their AFL than the rugby teams.

This. Australians always have positive things to say about NZ.

And I guess the elephant in the room is over 500,000 kiwis are living in Australia. Considering NZ has a population of 5,000,000 I think it speaks volumes.
