What do you think is causing the depression epidemic in western societies?

Shit, where to begin. Well, these are my guesses: screen time, social isolation, problems with identity, polarization, hostility and distrust, work and academic pressures, lack of common decency, etc.

On the more severe end, drug addiction, chronic poverty, chronic and difficult to treat mental illness, medical illnesses, healthcare costs, deeper political rifts, etc. But don't forget that it's probably our constant awareness of these issues thanks to poor media hygiene, not just the fact that they exist, that is really wearing us down.

These are what cause me to be miserable at least. I've come to understand that I share a lot with others.
