What happens when an intellectually disabled client becomes pregnant and one of her male caregivers refuses to give a DNA sample to rule himself out? Spoiler alert: He probably gets fired.

Acknowledged, and appreciated.

I will be the first to admit that my current position in this is because “catch a killer = good”. And that’s my blanket way of looking at it. It’s hard for me to see past that way of seeing things, based on my job and schooling for it.

But your comment reminds me of exactly what my dad would say, and he chalks it up to age and experience and respect for individual rights. He also has more knowledge of the constitution than I have. And I respect the hell out of his opinion.

I still hold my opinion, and I don’t think anyone should be forced to comply, because it’s our freedom not to. But when you’re passionate about something, it’s hard to see the black and white of it sometimes.

So I’ll acknowledge that my position is mostly based on feeling, rather than legality or constitutionality. And whether it’s right, or not, I don’t know.
