What is the most useless job that exists?

That would be the one.

At my first job, I was part of the IT department. I did a lot of stuff with the company's file server, email, website functionality, workstation maintenance and stuff like that. Not great pay but good experience.

Anyway, about a year after I started up, layoffs were announced. Immediately, I got pulled aside and advised by two different levels of management that the layoffs wouldn't affect me. And they didn't.

But HR took it straight to the chin. They fired the entire department (eight altogether) and replaced them with two HR women. One was the HR Queen Bee, the other was her HR drone. Some other layoffs happened, of course, but only HR was completely purged.

IT and sales, however, were completely unscathed.

That told me everything I needed to know about who actually mattered in that company. And in most companies.
