i’d probably have to say what i experiences as a kid at a birthday party when i was around 7 or 8 to set the scene, it was 2011 in a shadier chicago suburb from what i remember. not the best part of town, but it had one of those little indoor theme park places that could host birthday parties for kids. (think-sort of like chuck e. cheese, but with lil rides and things to keep kids entertained) anyway, it was called “go bananas”, and i was at a birthday party for the daughter of a family friend who was turning 8. all was well for the most part of it, and we were eating pizza and cake and going about our own business. now there was one ride, i think it was bull themed and it looked like the himalaya ride at carnivals and it was in a separate room with a line forming outside it. there were kids from other parties, and kids just there for fun so there was a good amount of people. my brother and the other kids really liked that ride and there was always a huge line, so i’m guessing the attendant didn’t take too much care into seeing that everything was safe. before i knew it the party had come to an abrupt stop, and my parents were telling us we had to leave. i insisted and begged my mom to let me turn in the tokens/tickets for a stupid prize like candy or something, and she gave in. there were paramedics and police officers outside, and they were urging us and everyone else to leave so after i picked out my candy we had to walk out. but not before seeing the scene, which was a mother screaming something along the lines of “my baby, what happened to my baby!” and the paramedics surrounding the bull ride and the kid. i was scared and i asked my mom what was going on, and she told me that the kid just broke his arm. later that day my family and a few of the others were out for dinner, and my brother and a few of the older kids (like 10/11 lol) were talking about what happened earlier. it was at this time that i learned the kid had died, and my friends and brother were on the ride when it happened. something to do with the kid trying to get off the ride before it was over, he was really little. either way, seeing the mother screaming like that and the kid who was in the accident is something i can’t easily forget.
