What should people be ashamed of for not knowing how to do?

That's ignorant. Ignorant in the sense that you lack a certain perspective exactly like those your are looking down on.
I'm amazed at how many people take googling skills for granted. It's an acquired skill that takes time and knowledge of the domain of the internet. I totally understand the frustration of the "Just google it before calling me" mentality, because that works so well for you and I. But I also know that there are many people (apparently more than you might realize) who should not be doing that. People who get a call from someone identifying themselves as "Microsoft" and give them their credit card while allowing them to install a trojan on their machine. People who install the "Weather" application and like to punch purple monkeys without realizing it's slowing your computer.
The malicious people on the internet are getting smarter and smarter at preying on the amateurs who are resourceful and brave enough to try to fix things themselves and it doesn't always go well.

But beside that is just the fact that it DOES take time, learning, and mistakes to get to the point where you can identify a red herring/ ruse/ poor advice/ malicious advice / worthwhile advice. Between forum posts, youtube videos, and all kinds of sources there is so much information out there now. It' not just as easy as "google it"
Just one example that I'll never forget: the time I worked for an ISP and their primary webpage went down and our callcenter was flooded with hundreds of customers who "couldn't connect to the internet" and never realized that there was more to the internet then myisp.com and their propriatary google searchbar. They all had no idea that you could go to google.com or that there were other places for news, weather and email.
