What is something that 90% of people don't seem to understand?

Story time: I was walking down a citystreet in a major metropolitan area. The sidewalk in this area was probably 6 feet wide give or take, accommodating the occasional tree planter every so often. I was on the right hand side of the sidewalk clear of trees when I went to go past a group of what I could assume to be Asian exchange students who were walking in one straight line across the sidewalk. No big deal I thought, moved far to the side almost against the parked cars expecting the girl on the end to move out of the way and break the wall of Asia. Not so. I stopped as she was still on her course and watched her walk straight into me, and I couldn't move to the side any further or I'd be standing on top of a car. The girl seemed upset and the group seemed to berate me in their language of origin but I just shrugged my shoulders and moved along. Was I invisible? Was it rude for me not to double back and dip between two cars to let them all pass in one uninterrupted line? Still baffles me to this day.
