What is something you've always wanted to do, but feel discouraged because of your gender?

I already posted this as a response to someone who said the same thing, but gonna copy pasta because I am very passionate about this.

I'm on month 8 of a solo travel trip right now, but I'm also a dude so I can only put my feet in your shoes so much. However, I have met SO MANY female solo travellers on the road, and all of them have had a great time. And this includes places like India, which have such a bum rap, but everyone I talk to has been fine. That's not to say that there aren't risks, but I think they are manageable ones.

I always feel a little torn when this topic comes up, having never been a women I really am oblivious to many of the complaints and concerns women have about their safety (like cat calling, never even seen it), and so feel a little shitty about giving female specific advice; BUT the media culture of the USA is out of control, it constantly peddles fear. FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR FEAR 24/7. It is so insidious that we don't even notice it creep into our minds. I have a buddy from my time in the military who is a twice deployed airborne infantryman, has biceps the size of my legs, whom I have personally seen win fights with fists, guns and knives, but refuses to join me on my travels, because he is scared. I have had people say I am crazy for staying in hostels because they have seen the movie "hostel", like it isn't a work of fiction. This is the damn near conditioning, hell I'd think so if I was more conspiracy minded.

Reddit isn't an exemption to this, in fact many of the anti-non-American-whatever rants on here is downright laughable to anyone who has really spent time outside the bubble. So what I'm driving at here is GO. MAKE PLANS NOW, DO WHAT YOU WANT! Seriously, I met little hijab wearing Iranian girls, and Chinese women who left without speaking even English all traveling alone. If they can you sure can. And honestly, for most of these women the worst experience with men was probably my randy ass chasing them all over. So conquer fear! That is what life is all about damnit!
