What was "the Thing" you did as a child that screamed ASD?

I tried to climb the fence and run away my first day at preschool.

I sucked my thumb in private until I was 8? 9?

I used to hide in the corner of my closet whenever I had a tantrum. It was filled with old things I had to climb over, so no one could get me. I kept an old sleeping bag which smelled good back there, along with my favourite things.

I was lucky to be able to make friends one-on-one, but always ended up an outsider in groups.

I was 9 when I realised some kids did this deliberately. It was at school with my best friend and others, playing at lunch. His new friend came over and invited everyone to do something, then turned toward me and said "but don't bring him". Everyone laughed, so I laughed too. Then they left. I think I climbed a tree.

My childhood obsessions were fantasy books and games. I'd read every Terry Pratchett book by 12, had started playing FFXI online at 10.

Toe walked my whole life. Labeled a depressive at 12, medicated. All sorts of counseling, different medications, as a teen. Finally got the autism label at 27.
