I (27 F) was called into one of my managers (50 M) office to be spoken to about repeating a joke another manager (60 F) had made. Another colleague had been explaining “rebranding” by going by another version of his name, to which my female manager misspoke without thinking and said “you don’t like Dick?”. It was a room full of females and only 2 males, everyone laughed and all was good. I repeated the joke over lunch back at the office in front of manager who made the comment, male manager who hadn’t been there and a few other colleagues. Everyone laughed.

2 days later male manager called me into his office to explain that I was completely out of line, totally inappropriate, made all the males in the room feel uncomfortable/no one found it funny and I should have read the room because no men were laughing, I made him feel sexually uncomfortable and I need to find the line between work and personal talk. I spoke to the other gentlemen in the room after to save face and they all had no clue what I was talking about, they thought it was hilarious.

So to sum up, I repeated a joke that a manager had made in telling the story, everyone laughed, to later be called out by a manager for making him feel sexually uncomfortable...harassed...I have no clue.

Most awkward meeting of my life and from then on I felt uncomfortable and couldn’t look him in the eye.
