It's more culturally accepted in america. The whole idea of anyone can do anything and freedom that is so deep rooted in american culture. It's an american thing. In my culture for example, we have the idea of different clothes. Like home clothes and outside clothes. If you wear your home clothes outside, then home again, youre bringing in dirt from outside (pollution, grime, etc) and then sitting on your couch. Another thing is, if you run into someone you know outside, looking like a slob, it makes you look lazy and bad. It's a cultural thing bc in america, you can wear whatever u want and it won't look bad on you, unless you dress inappropriately for an occasion or something.
