I had ordered Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas at book store around the late eighties. This big tall guy takes the book out of my hand and says “ Hmm does it still have the Ralph Steadman illustrations? Looks through it and says good book hope you like it” then goes to the cash register to do his business or whatever. Now I did not think anything about it until I was in my car. I then realized that Hunter Thompson was speaking at a local college and it was him! I could have got his autograph, spoke to him about anything. But it was not to be. To this day I can’t believe I didn’t recognize him. To this day I tell this story to anybody who would listen.
