What's people's experience with Azathioprine?

Let me tell you about my experience with aza.

I started it back in 2007. I was in semi remission. I switched to remicade, which brought remission. Then it failed.

Then I moved countries. I was in the middle of switching to humira at that time. It didn't work. After a long back and forth I ended up on aza again in 2013. Went into remission. So much so I gained weight. I reasoned, I needed a higher dose now. Up to 150 mg. I started getting symptoms. I had previously decided my next flare is my last so I setup surgery consultation. Said, done, had Colectomy in 2018. In 2019 jpouch takedown. Started getting joint pain and ulcers in my mouth and genitals (I don't have behçet's). Went back on aza, 100 mg. All is well. Doctor reasons you need to be on 150. OK. Started getting joint pain and ulcers develop again. No, I need to be on 100 mg I say. Convinced my doctor to prescribe me aza again, this time on a lower dose. All is well. Then it dawned on me. I didn't have to lose my colon if I had stayed in 100 mg this whole time. Biggest regret of my life
