Srivijaya of south east asia centered around modern malasia and the strait of malacca. The name srivijaya means happy and prosperous. They existed from the 8th to 12th century and were the first to dominate much of south east asia. To a lesser extent they were like south east asias version of greeks or phoenicians. They were maritime traders and its capital, palembang was an important point for buddhism and trade between china and the middle east/india. The capital was centered around a river where the homes were mostly boats and the center was an island in the river. For important records they wrote on thin cooper sheets.
