What's your "WTF USA" story?

I've heard a few Americans say that they believe people should be able to arm themselves because it will protect them should the government turn tyrannical.

I've been in a lot of fights, taken martial arts classes (which are nothing like street fights), and witnessed how people behave around violent or stressful situations. They freeze or they run. No, they don't calmly get their weapon, load it and aim with perfect accuracy at their highly trained enemy who has possibly served in various wars. They freeze.

The notion that they are going to protect themselves from a highly trained force is like claiming I am going to beat Andy Murray at tennis just because you gave me a spoon to hit the ball with. Every time I hear of a school shooting or some guy up in a building taking shots at people, I am reminded of this.

If you are not capable of defending yourself from an untrained lunatic with a jam 16, why you have so much faith in your ability to defend yourself from a force that can level your house with incredible precision makes me go WTF.
