When does HSK certification become worthwhile?

Not worthwhile a penny!

Chinese courses and testing—similar to English courses and testing—are merely designed to keep you in a dependency loop for paying tutoring and testing fees, without telling you what to do, to get ahead. It's sort of like checking your car and not getting the repair.

I'm supposed to speak three foreign languages, French, Chinese and English. I always wondered why my French and Chinese don't work; what did I do for English that I haven't in French and Chinese. Because of the schools I went to, there was considerable French and Chinese language expenditures involved, I went to France, I went to China, while I haven't done any of that for English. Last time I went to Singapore is zillion years ago and it wasn't for learning English. I did 1x test prep class for English and the English test once and only once.

By reading up, how languages are taught to and acquired in children, I discovered some missing steps that I missed with Chinese and French. Feel free to ask what that is, if you've read all so far, but your question was about HSK, not those steps.
