even if you're going to wait till after (you shouldn't) decide what ammo you're going to be using and get some right away. The gun isn't much good if there is no ammo for it. That will let you get educated about the different types of ammo there is for the gauge you pick.

You may also want to take an online hunter safety course, which is more safety than hunting. And find a range and join, most of the folks that go there are incredibly helpful people and will certainly set some time aside to help you through your initiation to guns and shooting.
