When OP's 8 year old son said he "was going to bring a knife to school and kill everyone" the school took issue (so did OP)

It’s absolutly a serious issue, but sometimes I struggle with the american way of handeling trouble or troubled students. Time out of school is not a effective method for dealing with such children, Both denying a child education and denying them any support outside of their own family does nothing to help the child. It helps the school, but not the child.

My mum is a social worker in Sweden that worked with children, and she and the schools would put extensive effort in finding solutions for keeping children is school. Because that makes for a healthier more well adjusted adult later on.

So whilst I understand why the school reacted so strongly, especially with everything in the US news these days, their choice on how to handle the issue isn’t necessarily the only choice in such situations.
