When to Resign?

Give it up dude. I absolutely care that OP takes care of himself. He's working for a shit wage at a shit job with an employer who is exploiting him. You're not going to gaslight me here. It's you who think that your needs trump others.

Last time we lost someone after the semester started we weren’t allowed to hire. I just had to teach their class for the semester for no extra money.

OP is begin underpaid by $60k. There's a risk when you exploit your workers like that. It sounds to me like your college is just as shit as his and doesn't plan adequately for these contingencies.

If you cared about others you would encourage people to do the best that they can do for themselves and to not put their personal lives at risk out of some false unreciprocated obligation to their employer.
