I’m normally on the side that mostly what this sub says is stupid, but this is pretty wrong.

You yourself said that Konami wants to convert f2p players to whales, that fails to happen if the f2p players leave. I would obviously assume that Konami appeals to whales first, that’s shown by the gem prices. But they can’t survive with only 100 players who drop butt loads of cash, because in a real setting, whales end up leaving because there is a small community, and there is barely anyone to play against, so longer queue times. No one wants to play a dead game, even whales.

And as for thousands of players who don’t drop money, that’s again preferable in a real life setting. F2P players are only f2p until they see an offer that’s too good to be true. For e.g look at DL. Konami manages to farm a lot of f2p players because of the 1$ UR sales, so it’s inaccurate to say that f2p players don’t provide anything.

And this has been shown before, but f2p players once spending once, will be much more likely to spend money once their initial guard is dropped. It’s been shown time and time again. And in some cases, are converted to whales.

Also, if the game is known as being p2p, it hinders growth a lot, as new players are less likely to join, and thus again can’t convert people into p2p. Short term, abusing f2p players to the max is okay, but long term it really isn’t.

In reality, you need a balance. You can’t just abuse f2p players as that will kill any sort of growth, and eventually whales leave. You also can’t give them our constant freebies, where the community seems it fair, as there is less need for whales. Konami is pretty great at this, because in DL they manage to push the bar right to the edge, where the prices are borderline unfair, and require insane amounts of grinding, but they gave ever so tiny amounts to get f2p players to hold on.

Tldr: Konami needs to hook f2p players before converting them to p2p. They can’t do that if the f2p gems is so unfair that people leave within a couple days.
