Which group of people comes off as the most pretentious?

I work part time in a quite busy indie record shop and many of my coworkers over the years have been young musicians and I'm astonished at how arrogant and pretentious they ALL were.

They also were extremely judgmental of people who listened to music that they deemed inferior.

~You listen to Metallica? what are you an idiot? Check out Discordance Axis!~

~What do you mean you want to buy the latest Taylor Swift on vinyl? are you fucking stupid?~

~Oh you want that song from that episode of Entourage in the second season? No I won't help you find that, only idiots watch Entourage.~

or if they didn't like the band they would INSIST it didn't belong to the genre.....

I had this convo with one of my coworkers after finding our entire Iron Maiden section mysteriously moved to the Pop/Rock section.

me "why is Iron Maiden in the pop/rock section?"

coworker in a snooty tone "um.......they aren't metal"

me "since when?"

coworker still snooty "no one I know even knows who Iron Maiden is"

me "customers look for Iron Maiden in the heavy metal section. They should be there"

coworker now irritated "well they're idiots"

me "how you feel about the customers isn't important. We sell records and we need our customers to be able to find things where they belong. Iron Maiden belongs in heavy metal"

coworker in a pissy tone "Iron maiden is what? like 40 years old? How can a 40 year old band be a metal band? Metal was invented in the 90s"

me "are you fking serious???"

coworker in an incredulous tone "you just don't get it I guess? Iron Maiden is not a metal band"

pretty much convos like this with him every weekend.

other gems.......

"I don't think we should stock Megadeth vinyl.......it's like pandering to idiots"

"Why are we stocking electronic music on Vinyl? Who buys electronic music on vinyl anyway?"

"I don't think we should have a jazz music section. Jazz music is racist"

also long tirades about 'false metal'......pretty much any metal band that got on the radio was 'false metal'
