*musicians always say they're taking a break. you should trust that like an addict who says they're gonna take a break from drugs soon. yes, she will take a break. then she will return two or three or four years later with another masterpiece and tour.
*the art angels era is not even half-over yet. grimes has touring commitments stretching into the summer. she plans to release probably two or three more singles/videos from this album- and sounds excited about that. if one of these becomes really popular, she may have to add more dates. at the very least, she will be doing the grimes thing through the end of summer, and probably unless everything is way less successful than expected, it will extend to the end of this year in some way or another, maybe even early next year. remember, she may have a hit and do TV appearances, or get award nominations. when she says "taking a break," what she means is AFTER all that.
*she has been adding more concerts this year, including in North america. It is very unlikely she would not add shows in Canada too, if she is adding them in the US, because it's so much easier to hit just the three biggest cities in Canada, without the necessity of extensively touring. in particular I think it will be a point of pride to bring her Art Angels tour back to Vancouver and Montreal (the cities where she grew up/started her music career) and yes, toronto (where she actually hinted she might want to live next- although perhaps shooting kill v maim in the winter there changed her mind- you know she was in your city for weeks making that, right?)
*the reason I'm sure she will be back is to show off her new arrangements. last year was really a prelude to Art Angels tour, which ended up being a victory lap as the album was released to excellent reviews partway through the tour. but the old Grimes (not the old old Grimes, but like, the 2012-2014 Grimes) was still in control at that time in the way she played live. it was essentially the same as her Visions era show with a few more songs, lights and dancers. that was a transitional era of grimes, it wasn't really her Art Angels tour. now, it MIGHT have been all we ever got (many classic albums were never toured at all by the artist- even Kendrick has barely toured lately) but thankfully she decided to revisit the setlist and she is slowly incorporating more and more changes. the way i see it, her lana del rey tour was like 10% art angels grimes trying to be born, her "rhinestone cowgirls" tour (the one last fall that you missed- and me too because they canceled my show) was at 30% art angels, her current acid reign tour of asia and europe is like 50% art angels, and by the time she returns to north america she will be at 70% art angels. it will be a radically different show and unless something goes wrong, she will have evolved and gotten every new performance tighter over the course of these tours and finally her opening act for florence will polish everything until it's not only radically different from before but also PERFECT and by THEN, it will be summer and she will be doing her make-up shows and festival appearances in the US, and I would be VERY surprised if she doesn't either add a date in montreal, vancouver and toronto at that time, or schedule one for a little later in the year. she will want everyone in her home country to witness how she has improved live even since last year. in fact, as I said, it will be a point of pride to do that in montreal, because she has a contentious relationship with that city and so many haters there (lovers as well- so she'll definitely want to play for them too). and since she seems to prefer toronto to montreal now (or at least feels more at home there without so many ex friends around) you can bet she will not neglect playing in toronto if she hits montreal.
*the only bad news for you is that by the time she decides it's right to return to canada, her career will have picked up more momentum. tickets may be harder to come by and more expensive. it's also possible her chosen venue might be very small, like the LA venue for her "march of the pugs" event. you really need to be following grimes on twitter, every day, or you may miss out.
