You wouldn't concentrate on that!

No, there are only concentration checks required if you take damage. Normal activity, like moving/attacking (or anything else, like really if you can concentrate while bolting around slingin spells...)

Even the example in the book of a DM adjudication references having a wave of water or being on a tossed ship as requiring you to make a DC 10 check.

Adding extra stipulations to that is homebrew and frankly really shitty homebrew.

OPs DM is honestly just trying to make up for the fact that he forgot his character was concentrating on something. Rather than take it in stride he choose to be a shitty DM and attempt to subvert the characters autonomy.
