X-Mas Editing for the Hopeful Law Student

I have never used gdocs or dropbox. Would it be fine to copy and paste the statement and you can copy to a Word doc and email it back to me? [email protected]

Personal Statement How our government impacts the operation of business is fascinating to me. This interest has led me to pursue a career in business. Throughout my five years of school, I have developed a passion for the tax code. After my Graduate studies, I completed the CPA exam and started my first accounting position. My first work experience was an internship with a public accounting firm. With this job I sharpened basic skills. I built on specific knowledge, focused on issues affecting clients and members of the community, developed as a professional and learned more about accounting. After my internship, I found an opportunity to work in the tax department of a larger CPA firm. At this job, I work with successful CPAs including a mentor with 10 year of experience in the tax field. I have had the privilege of working with three successful partners of the firm each of whom have over 30 years of experience. Working with these professionals has helped me better understand key fundamentals of the tax code. This position has been exciting for many reasons. I have enjoyed working with tax clients dealing with a variety of issues. I find it fulfilling to save clients money with proper planning and technique. I enjoy exploring the tax code and learning about statutes relating to my client's specific situations. The tax code is always changing which makes learning about it exciting.
One case that piqued my interest in pursuing the study of tax law involved a family with life insurance policies in multiple trust accounts. The estate had been tied up in litigation for years due to the misappropriation of funds and mismanaged accounting records. I prepared eight years of accounting statements for both trusts from fragmented and often vague or incomplete sources. My work ended up being submitted to the court as evidence and I had the opportunity to work with a few lawyers throughout this process. Studying a case involving litigation was a great experience. I enjoyed learning how accounting and law work together to solve issues and help people. With legal education and training, I will be able to further explore my passion. Studying tax law will prepare me to handle situations involving both tax and legal issues. A category requiring accounting and legal expertise is estate planning. I plan to focus on estate planning for domestic as well as foreign individuals, which is especially important in South Florida. I enjoy dealing with these types of cases because they deal with large sums of money and personal client involvement. While dealing with clients on a personal level it is important to be well versed in the ever evolving tax code. I wish to further my education to better understand the law. With a better understanding of the law, I will be better able to help people resolve complex tax issues. Going to law school will provide an excellent opportunity to learn from knowledgeable peers. I expect to develop skills by networking and participating in extracurricular activities. I am eager to take part in public interest groups, study groups, community services, educational centers, and other beneficial activities. I look forward to making friends and relationships to help me throughout my career. Knowledge, skills and becoming an alumnus of an accredited school are just a few of the benefits of achieving higher education. With support from family, friends, peers and mentors I have strong hopes of becoming a successful tax attorney. I look forward to enjoying the experiences law school has to offer.
