It's Your Fun & Fancy Free Discussion! (May 17, 2016)

(I think I post this here, since the rules say all threads have to be related to film.)

Hi, I'm new to reddit. I've been into movies ever since I was a little kid; I'm 22 now and this hasn't changed. When I was young I was really into horror movies (my parents let me watch The Texas Chain Saw Massacre when I was in kindergarten) and I still love the genre, but over the years my tastes have expanded to cover just about everything. One life-changing event for me, the earliest I can say I began to become a cinephile, was when I was in middle school and I watched this tv special called 100 Scariest Movie Moments and a followup 30 Even Scarier Movie Moments. It introduced me to A Clockwork Orange, which looked like nothing I had ever seen and the clip they played immediately caught my attention. So I rented the movie and adored it, and reading up on the movie eventually introduced me to two lists - the AFI list and the TSPDT list. Months after this I saw the AFI 10th anniversary special, and though now I think the list is rather silly (no documentaries, no shorts, no avant-garde films), it will always have a special place in my heart for introducing me to several movies I had never heard of but I instantly knew I had to see, like Rear Window and Modern Times and Raging Bull. Not too long after this happened, I discovered that two of the channels my family had, TCM and IFC, were aimed at people like me and aired the types of films I was now interested in viewing. I started watching foreign-language films for the first time - I think the first was either M or Seven Samurai - and this was an epiphany for me. Soon watching these movies became my biggest hobby and my passion, and I had a little moment of glee every time I checked off one more film on any film list I was exploring. Along the way, I was exposed to movies doing things I had never thought possible, like Brakhage's experiments with visual poetry or Deren's dream films.

In other words, I am a total film dork - and proud of it! A lot of the great friends I have made are people I first met online in various movie forums, and I've even met a few in person. There are times when I have to keep it on the down low for a while (namely because of school), but I doubt I will ever stop being obsessed with cinema.

If I was supposed to post this somewhere else, I'm sorry, but I just wanted to introduce myself to the other users here.

Also, I have a Letterboxd, in case any of you are interested in what I have seen. I definitely need to do more than just rate films (I only have a few reviews), though. But here:
