12 Week Cutting Progress (M/20/178lbs-152lbs)

Then what the hell are you doing here (you ask)? Yeah, well, my cross to bear, and i got the gut to prove it :(

You're here because you want to improve yourself, and you're reading these posts to either A) find some secret or B) in the hopes that it will motivate you. It's great that you're making that effort!

But here's the thing, getting rid of the gut requires no secrets. In fact, Kattpuzn's response is inaccurate. You do not have to workout to keep weight down. If you want to be rid of the gut, you only need the second item (don't eat much). Cut to where you want to be, and then maintain. It really isn't complicated.

The only secret you'll find is what specific diet works for you. Everybody is different, and there are a plethora of options. Try different combinations of food until you find something that is really difficult for you to overeat (in terms of calories) on, while still being delicious.

For most people this is as simple as dropping sugar and breads and replacing with more meat. If veggies are your thing, do that as well. But I'm a meat eater, so I stick with bacon, sausage, chicken, etc.

If you've never put the effort into calorie counting before, give it a shot. You don't need to do it for the rest of your life, don't worry. Just do it for two weeks. Download My Fitness Pal for your phone. It's great. Log everything. The point is, again, not to do this for the rest of your life. The point is to learn an intuitive sense for how many calories are in different food. If you've not done it before, you'll be surprised at what is really calorie dense, and what isn't. For example, tortillas are the devil. Bacon is awesome. Beef is eh.

By the way, I'll bet you brush your teeth every day, as well as shower, do the dishes, clean your house, take out the trash, etc. These are all chores that we all do, every day, for the rest of our lives (or at least, try to :P I'm really bad at cleaning the house). They suck, but we gotta do them. And the great thing is, we've got a long life to figure out tricks to get us doing what we need to do to have a happy and healthy life. I bought a really nice electric toothbrush; fun to use. I'm switching to Soylent to help maintain diet without cooking or doing dishes. For working out, watching documentaries and interviews on Arnold are what pushed me over the edge. This particular quote really kicked my ass into gear: "If the president of the United States has time to workout, you have time to workout."
