18 miles and what I've learned

Good job for completing your long run. Thanks for sharing your experience. I ran 17 miles last Saturday as part of my NYCM training regimen. I tried something new during this run, I ate overnight soaked oatmeal as per-run nutrition an hour and half before my start time. It was a bad idea as I felt a strong bowel movement by mile 6. I typically eat a bagel or a PBJ sandwich.

My biggest struggle is to make sure I consume calories while running. It’s not that I forget, it’s that I tend to delay intake as I don’t feel the need to consume anything. And by the time I do, I guess it’s a little too late. Haven’t bonked on any of my long runs coz I’m ensuring I run at a steady pace maintaining low heart rate.
