3PO's analysis is spot on...

I'll rephrase that

People (The internet horde) like to shit on things that aren't perfect. Episode 2&3 were both better than Jedi, and 3 rivals Empire in my book. However, because it is cool to do so, the internet jumped on and started hating these movies because they remember them so fondly. Star Wars is not a cinematic masterpiece. It's Grade A SciFi with a decent story and awesome visuals. People are so stuck in the past that they don't realize that the current movies are exactly the same, a decent story with a fuckton of cool stuff to look at, and hate on it constantly. Fans that do shit like that ruin the series. Was the dialog shitty? Yes, but "I hate sand" is no worse than "I Love You" and "I know". Lucas loved shitty SciFi and built a damn good franchise around the SciFi structure of the time.

Luke as a character was very underdeveloped, and I enjoyed Anakin a lot more as we actually got to see him grow up and the things in life that get him to "I hate sand". Unlike Luke, who is shown as a snotty kid who wants to fuck around with his friends and then becomes a space warrior overnight. There was no conflict with Luke. He was the uncorruptable (and ultimately uninteresting character) while his father actually struggled. He wanted to be right, but wanted to work for his own good as well. And for that conflict and emotion, Hayden did a pretty good job of conveying it, especially making "I hate sand" even halfway convincing at 21. His character may have been a whiny little shit, but it fit into the narrative and I appreciate that. Star Wars was not, is not and never will be a plot only movie, and comparing 3 movies and their actors on a different standard than 3 other movies and their actors is unfair to a great goddamn series
