4690k owners - your thoughts after 3 years

Idk man. Aren't i7 4790k's about $250-$300? Or did they drop? Because I couldn't justify selling an i5 4690k, to buy an i7 4790k(what I have now).

There's nothing wrong with being CPU bound. You seem to think that it is "worse" to be CPU bound. It's not.

In fact, a LOT of people game with very cheap, single core CPU's, to save money.

In the end, i bought my i7 4790k, about 2 years ago. It still is viable(like you say). But so is an i5 4690k, in most scenarios.

In 3 years time, 1, 2, or 3 lines will have come out. 11xx 12xx 13xx possibly. In that amount of time, the i7 4790k's clock, cache, etc, will make it obselete, in top end setups.

SO.... what's the point? The i7 4790k is a shitty buy. Why? Because a cheaper CPU will get you similar gaming performance NOW. And in 3 years, your EXPENSIVE, TOP END CPU, will not be able to keep up with TOP END, EXPENSIVE GPUS, just like the i5's.

If you're buying an enthusiast CPU now(like an i7 4790k), that means you probably want top of the line stuff. But, in 3 years, you're going to have to sell your CPU anyway. Might as well just get something you need now, because the CPU is going to be obselete soon anyway.
