According to a new analysis , one out of every eight leading, peer-reviewed studies on nutrition is tied to food industry. "Where the food industry is involved, research findings are nearly six times more likely to be favourable to their interests than when there is no food industry involvement."

I know you are one awesome guy, but I would like to defend the average person here.

Source: I’m a GenX’er and have worked in medical research. So I get the science, but I also have lived the last 45+ years to see what’s happening.

I was taught “sugar/carbs good, fat bad” and the food pyramid as a kid, only to learn in my 30s that it was all BS. It’s only recently that it’s become more widely known. To those who don’t have the time, motivation, or ability to keep up, it make “science” seem whimsical and serving the interest of corporations.

The specific research I did my MS thesis on was, before the 90s, used as a BS explanation for a hoax. Now, 30 years later, it’s widely used in household and other devices and is still being widely studied and defined. When I told my parents what I was doing, the only reason they didn’t dismiss it is because I was doing the work for NASA.

Things change quickly. It’s hard for the head-line-news type of people to keep up.
