Jokes are funny. They cause both the joker and the jokee to have a pleasant reaction.

Someone knocking on my window while I’m sitting in my car texting isn’t the beginning of a joke. It would startle the hell out of me and cause a fear adrenaline spike. Accusing me, after startling me, that I hit that persons car would really get my heart pumping.

You didn’t joke. Your intent doesn’t matter. Impact does. Should he have followed you? I don’t know. Maybe he wanted to know who the hell you are and what gave you the nerve. But you decided that you wanted to star in your own Hallmark meet cute.
