NTA, I just had a similar conversation a couple of days ago. I am tired of people trying to “gringoize” the Spanish language. I have no problem using these terms in English but do not force the entire Spanish language community to change the fundamental structure of the language or speak “Spanglish” for those who refer to themselves as they/them.

General Spanish gender rules Singular masculine nouns: begin with el e.g. el niño = the boy. Singular feminine nouns: begin with la e.g. la niña = the girl. Plural masculine nouns: begin with los e.g. los niños = the boys. Plural feminine nouns: begin with las e.g. las niñas = the girls.
