Alcohol and Running/Fitness

In my late 30s I almost entirely replaced alcohol with cannabis, and my running and general health have never been better. I did drink too much, which would affect my sleep, recovery, motivation, appetite etc. I'd average a bottle of wine a night.

Now I have three or four beers a week at home, and I'll have a pint or two with my mates if I'm at a pub or bar (pre-covid). I smoke cannabis every day, I vape a small amount every morning, and I have some more in the evening if I feel like it. I also get very, very stoned before embarking on my long runs (normally 20 to 25km).

I ran personal bests at every distance between 5k and half marathon in the last 9 months.
