As an outsider, looking in, this seems more than a little worrying.

To me it looks like classic group think and reinforcement. Freedom Inc. has been in the news a lot and it seems to have been consistently loosing support for months over some of it's stances.

The irony being that, just like any other group, when a group shrinks due to ideals the group itself becomes more radical. As centrists or people with opposing ideas leave the more radical members that are left constantly reinforcement each others ideas. This creates three illusions. 1. That what they are thinking are all great ideas. 2 that there is wide spread support for their ideas. 3. that they have more power than they do.

This isn't just a left leaning phenomena. All groups (not necessarily just political ones either) are subject to this. I would say the modern GOP party is going through a similar process though obviously not as acute since since a much larger entity.

Demanding custody of someone would already be ridiculous coming from a different Government body. Coming from a private organization its just insane.

Either they know this and are just trying to get a message across and hoping shock value will help spread it or the group shrinking has forced them down the rabbit hole.
