Residents at my program have been assigned to do additional shifts despite all elective OR cases being cancelled. At present there is not enough work to go around so multiple residents are “covering” the same services aka sitting around daily being passively exposed in a hospital with numerous positives including staff and resident cases.

The shifts of our attendings, CRNAs and housestaff (non-resident MDs still covered by attendings) have all been reduced. All anesthesia residents are required to come in daily regardless of what rotation they are on. The department is starting a night float system to be added to our usual daily schedule. We will be doing additional weekend calls in April to cover for housestaff.
