Doesn't say each machine made a full widget. Maybe each machine makes one stage of a widget and it takes 5 minutes for 5 widgets to get through all 5 stages. Then if you make 100 machines, you don't know if there is an even distribution of each single-stage machine. If you got 100 more of the same stage, then you are still bottlenecked by the other 4 stages and it would take around 100 minutes to make 100 widgets.

If instead you went from 5 different single-stage machines to 100 of the same kind of single-stage machine, you would never finish making 100 widgets because you don't have all the stages of the production pipeline.

OR maybe you DID get an even distribution of single-stage machines, meaning that you have 25 of each single stage and can produce 25 widgets every 5 minutes, so it would take you 20 minutes to make 100 widgets.

OR maybe each machine does make a full widget, in which case it takes 5 minutes with 100 machines to make 100 widgets.
