Anyone else have an amazing locked-in rent price and feel like they can never move?

Not renting anymore but we're stuck in a knockdown house. If either one of us loses our jobs we probably won't re-qualify for our mortgage. So far we have been able to afford to remediate the black mould issue we found after the sale but still live with the same fixtures that haven't been updated since the 80's. We both have great jobs and educations, I think it's tough for anyone working for a living these days. Our kid has some significant medical issues so moving to the US to double our salaries is out of the question. We're also relying on childcare help from family since our kid can't participate in daycare with the way things are right now. Shit sucks but i'm optimistic we can get through this in a few years.
