Has anyone witnessed a friend's descent into severe mental illness/schizophrenia through their facebook posts?

Yes, although it's someone I knew in school and haven't spoken with in years. She was never bright (like at all) so for a long time when her posts were badly misspelled or didn't make sense I just chalked it up to that. But then, after a hiatus of a few months, all of her posts were totally bat shit crazy. It got so bad that friends were contacting her parents and asking her to call them. Then after a few days they would all disappear.

Turned out she had been in a car wreck of some sort and gotten prescription painkillers so that was the beginning of it, then at some point she was driving on painkillers and got in another wreck, then fight with that person and something happened like she got hit in the head. She posted long, incoherent rants about it on facebook and the mutual friends confirmed something like that, but the end result was a lawsuit and more painkillers so she was really, really crazy on FB for a while posting really racist, ugly, angry things about the other person involved and the lawsuit.

It appeared that her parents (who were older) eventually understood and were monitoring her account so she would post and then when they checked they would take it down.

She's in her mid-30's now and still posts really odd stuff but not quite as bad. Clearly still on the pain killers but the vicious rants have stopped. Now she posts pictures of huge houses, engagement rings, furs, etc and tries to describe how smart/awesome she is with references to being on the HS soccer team and asks people to set her up on dates because all she wants is a good, Christian husband and little kids It's only semi-coherent though so it takes a lot of deducing to figure it out.

It would be really cringe worthy if it weren't so obvious she's a drug addict.
