RT is the state-run news and is thus reflects the government's stance on everything. I did a quick, lazy search for statistics on how many Russians get their news from RT and couldn't find any (though I'm sure that information exists).

While there are new orgs that are not state run and Russia does technically have "freedom of the press", non-state-run new is kept on a tight leash and punished harshly for stepping out of line.

I think that, like many Americans, Russians don't keep themselves informed on a day-to-day basis and prefer to emmerse themselves in entertainment news, tv shows, concerts, etc. For that, there is Channel One Russia. Channel One is the main entertainment soure in Russia, and it has soap operas, sitcoms, concerts, sketch shows, late night talk shows, etc. But it is also state-owned, and the portrayal of geopolitics is still very controlled.

I'm a naturally-born US citizen and don't live in Russia. My experience with Russians comes from my parents, the Russian immigrant community they socialized with, and some short trips to Russia.
