"Artificial scarcity" is not what people think it is

Well if someone managed to click 30 times rather than 20, then that's the same thing as if Anet had made the sale "2010 items available." You can change the numbers as many times as you want but the example still holds true when all is said and done.

No it isn't. Think about what is driving the "total items sold" number. In a time limited situation, who has control over the "total items sold?" In a limited amount available situation, who has control there?

It sounds like you are trying to say that "limited time" is no different from something available always, in that you can theoretically get as many as you want.

No, what I am saying is very clearly that "limited time" is very different from "limited amount."

If theoretically you could get infinite items in both cases there would be no difference.

That's not true at all. Yes you can buy an infinite amount of items in both situations, but after a sale is over, you can't buy any more of it. Just because you had the potential to buy an infinite amount at one point doesn't mean you always have the potential to buy an infinite amount.

But realistically, there is a difference because no one can actually get an infinite amount of items.

No, but there is an infinite amount available.

It will always be finite because we can't break the laws of physics.

It's not breaking the laws of physics. Infinity exists within our understanding of the universe.

Since it is always finite, that means limited time is always the same thing as limited amount, because when the sale ends, a finite amount has been sold in both cases.

No it is not. If I tell you to run as far as you can in 10 seconds, is that the same thing as me telling you to run 10 meters?
