baby lawyer, 4 months in, already over it - wwyd

Look at the motivations that got you to apply to law school, attend for three years, and graduate and get your first job. If it is because you had no other choices, or it is what your parents wanted for you, or you thought it would be a fine way to earn lots of money then the motivation will probably wane over time. It is possible that other motivatione will then displace the others. Such as, I have student loans, car loan, mortgage and need to pay them now, or I have a family and need to provide for them now.

If you are solo then you have all the freedom you will ever have again to make a change now.

I have been a lawyer for 25 years but pretty much always think I should have done something else that used my interest and skills at building things. I was a History major and and English minor. When I was 23 I figured this was the natural choice, or fate. I also really don't have the "passion for the law" that some people talk about. I have always kind of thought most lawyers, especially the ones with the scales of justice on their desks and the phot of the Supreme Court on their walls are just full of themselves. If you are already having some of the feelings I have described, and the motivations I have described, then you are possibly going to feel bound to this profession and resent it. The longer you go the more you will feel like there is no option but to just keep going.
