Have you been arrested? What is your story?

Almost.

My mate and I were around 18 and worked in a kitchen - he a chef, me the kitchen bitch. We had just finished a 7 day week (short staffed) and were knackered. We skipped the usual staff drink and decided to head home.

My brother had asked if I could sober drive him home from a party, so off we go to get him. My car at the time was a stock green 1985 Toyota Corrola DX which was a rare-ish car the boy racers (circa 2006/7) in Chch were in love with, this one had been broken into 5 times but had a kill switch in it.

We were down the road when I realised we missed the turn off, I do a u-turn without signalling on an empty road. A car about 1km starts speeding up, tailing me, and low & behold, a cop car with its lights on. Ahh well, I'm on my full, no alcohol and luckily no drugs on us that night.

Cop gets out and while I wind down my window; demands I give him the keys. I'm going 'wtf!', don't you want my license? No. Stay in the car, give me the keys. Meanwhile, 2 more cop cars show up, and 1 dog unit. Okaaaaay.

My mate gets asked to get out of the car with his backpack and his chefs knives wrapped up in a tea-towel (usual chef practice if you have no case). They start asking us a bunch of questions "where you going, what you doing, why do you have all these knives, whats with the cricket bat and stereo in the back seat?" I tell them, "sober driving my brother from a party, he's a chef, I play cricket, and that's my mates stereo". They're not happy with the answer.

My mate is out of the car with his gear, I'm told to stay in my car with my hands on the steering wheel. We are like this for the next hour or so. Finally they ask me to get out and get ready to handcuff us both; still at this point, we have NO IDEA wtf is going on. Just as the cop was getting the cuffs, another cop (there are about 10 of them at this stage) calls out "they've got the suspects". Handcuffs go away, keys are given back, and we're told to go on our way.

I say to the cop "ok, what was this all about? You've kept us here for well over an hour, tried to search the car and asked my mate a million questions." He tells us that there had been a home armed robbery, with 2 male caucasian suspects, driving a green 1980's Toyota 4 door, in this area. Well fuck me if we didn't fit that description to the T.

We got my brother and went the fuck back home. What a way to end a 7 day week.
