I want to begin planting trees. How do I proceed?

  1. Plant trees on land you own or have permission to plant on by the landowner.

  2. Plant native trees that are from the area you’re planting trees in. Non-native trees will often either die, or at the other end of the scale become invasive, and often when they don’t they provide sub-optimal food and shelter for native wildlife that is not adapted for the tree in question.

  3. Buy seeds or collect them with permission from the landowner whose trees you are taking seeds from. It is often illegal to collect seeds from trees on either government owned or privately owned land.

  4. For highest success rate start seeds in pots and then transplant successful ones. Many trees have relatively low success rates from seeds, overcome by putting out vast quantities of seeds each year.
