Bernie Sanders Blocks Obama’s FDA Nominee Over Big Pharma Ties

Yes, but the argument that Bernie makes is that we can important fish, fruits, and vegetables from around the world yet we cannot do that with prescription drugs.

His argument was Canada, who just happens to have pretty equivalent standards to America. The discussion was not about generic prescriptions - but name brand pharmaceuticals.

I see your point and I understand your concern, however, the argument sounds pointless. If the FDA can approve fish, fruits, and vegetables from around the world - surely we could approve pharmaceuticals.

The thing is people do not need fish, fruits, and vegetables from around the world to survive but prescription drugs - they do. Many people literally (not figuratively) need these prescriptions for survival.

Elderly people are cutting up rations of food and drugs because they cannot afford the annual increase in COLA, while benefits stay flat. That is unjust, wrong, and unacceptable.

You can play devil's advocate all you want here - but the fact is - you couldn't be more wrong on the matter. The FDA can play a role in lowering prescription drug prices - they just choose not to. Perhaps it is not as easy as "flipping a switch" - but it should be a goal nonetheless - which is more than can be said about the current affairs of doing absolutely nothing.
