Best Final Fantasy and Dragon Warrior game to start the series with?

I love FFX! It's definitely my favorite, but it can be pretty polarizing.

For Final Fantasy, I'd suggest starting with Final Fantasy 4! It's "classic" FF that still has a fleshed out story. I prefer the voice acting and models of the 3D version, but it's way harder. Most people suggest the PSP versions, which also comes with the direct sequel.

As for Dragon Quest, I love them all! I'd say start with either DQ3 or DQ4.

With Dragon Quest 3, you create your party and they're all blank slates. It's pretty fun mixing and matching, and the music is the best in the series IMO. Idk how averse you are to smartphone gaming, but I played it on my android and loved it! If you don't wanna play it on smartphone I suggest emulating it on SNES with the fan translation, but the official translation on the phone has more personality.

Dragon Quest 4 has an ensemble cast, and they're all super charming and likeable. Each chapter has a new main character, kinda like Mother 3. The remade graphics are really vibrant and nice, and it's overall just my favorite DQ. I suggest the Smartphone version as well, because the English DS version is missing the party chat button! Party chat really fleshed the characters out for me and they each have something fun to say at almost every location and after talking to NPCs.
