Best Winnipeg Employer: Municipal, Federal, or Provincial?

It's a grind.

Yes the pension is nice, but what a fucking waste of time.

I'm actually a Leftie and believe that the government can do good things, but the fuckary of this swivel service is beyond belief.

The union guy inside me cringes, but I really wonder if anyone should even be allowed to go beyond five years.

Took in a seminar a couple of years back, "Work/Life Balance". Room was full of forty-something women whining about having to drive 30 to 40 minutes each way from their McMansion to work and back. They live outside the City to avoid paying taxes yet have the audacity to bitch about the drive, FFS.

To get anything done you have to "collaborate" and "consult". Big problem is though, that people are never around because they're either burning vacation time or on a conference junket. June/July - Forget about it, no one around, Summer Holidays. The last two weeks in September, maybe. October isn't bad, but at least a week in November is blown off because of Remembrance Day; and, October and November are the height of the conference season. The first week in December isn't too bad, but after that everyone has Christmas brain. People straggle back to work in the second week of January but the place quickly becomes vacant because people are "escaping winter" to their condos in Arizona or they're off to Mazatland. March is a loss because people are burning time before year-end. April is pretty good, but at least a week is lost because of Easter and the Spring conference circuit. Then comes May and no one gives a fuck because it's Spring. June rolls around and the whole place slows down to a halt because they're preparing for summer. About 10 to 12 weeks a year are viable for getting anything done.

It's sad really. I'm passionate about service delivery but it's just one big old-girls club, or old-boys club depending on the gender of the Division Head.

Not a bad gig, but loaded with frustration. Do it again? Nope. Wearing the Golden Handcuffs for a bit, then I'm gone.
