"I bet you kiss girls, faggot." What does this mean and why/how is it meant to be insulting?

Dictionary.com

No, sorry. Dictionary.com isn't an all-authoritative source. You at least could have attempted a somewhat more reputable dictionary, but even that wouldn't help you much here. Gay is "awkward, stupid, or bad; lame' and faggot 'a contemptible or dislikable person' precisely because of those usages coming, still in very recent history and present usage, through their use as homophobic slurs. People use nigger in the same way, but would you honestly say that is not racist? Hell, the fact that straight people even support this notion that 'gay' or 'faggot' isn't homophobic is homophobic in and of itself. You insult us then don't even have the decency to fess up? Fuck that.

Did I say any of those aren't used as insults any more?

My point apparently went completely over your head there. My point is that "homosexual" and "homo" are still very much used as insults, just like 'gay' and 'faggot' (there is, in fact, a connection between them). That's inescapably homophobic.

I don't know, why are you bringing this up?

I bring it up because much of the criticism of homosexuality is that it's deemed to 'feminize' men. Another way of feminizing men is to call them 'girly,' in a manner which is makes something being feminine worthy of criticism. However, with people like you putting 0 thought into what you say, it's clear why language like this is propagated.

I said that the meaning of "gay" and "faggot" has shifted. Which is pretty unsurprising and uncontroversial, or at least I thought it was.

It hasn't. The idea is only not controversial amongst people who don't want to make an effort into reducing how much offense they cause others, while also not wishing to come off as bigoted. It's sickening, really.

It sounds like your saying that when people use the word "gay" as a synonym for "lame" the idea they have that the words have become partly synonymous is actually a ruse on their part to appear that they aren't homophobes.

I wouldn't call it a ruse. Most people probably aren't aware that they're being homophobic. But not all homophobia is people consciously trying to cause harm to homosexuals, just like not all racism is people dressed up in white robes lynching black people. These things are usually much more subtle and insidious, but still do plenty of harm. If you go around using 'gay' and 'faggot' in a disparaging manner, you are being homophobic. Don't believe me? Go talk to anyone who isn't straight. It's just one more way of society reminding us that we're not wanted.
