I'm currently visiting Gettysburg, and thinking about the Confederacy. I'm not defending the Confederate leaders, but when you compare their intent, secession from the United States, to what Trump tried to do on 6 January, an overthrow of the legitimately elected President of the US, it makes me realize how seriously in jeopardy our country and Constitution were on that day. If Lee's attacks into Pennsylvania had successfully ended the Civil War, the USA would most likely still be intact. However, if Trump's "army" or political cohorts had been successful in overturning the election, our Constitution would have been shredded. I strongly believe that Trump should have been immediately impeached and then arrested and tried for an attempted coup.
